Athletic Therapist, CAT(C)

Brett Nagata began his career by studying and designing orthotics and prosthetics, which introduced him to the world of adaptive sports. His interest gradually shifted toward rehabilitation medicine, leading him to further his education in athletic therapy and physiotherapy (UK).

Currently, alongside his work in athletic therapy at Apple Creek, Brett continues to provide treatment coverage for Athletics Canada athletes. He also serves as an international classifier with the International Wheelchair Basketball Federation (IWBF).

Previously, he has worked as a course instructor in the Athletic Therapy Program at York University and served as the Integrated Support Team (IST) lead and medical lead for Wheelchair Basketball, attending five Paralympic Games as their athletic therapist, contributing to three gold and one silver medal performances.

Brett also spent 17 years in the UK, working with the Scottish and English Institutes of Sport. As medical lead, he supported athletes in Scottish Judo and GB Boccia and served as the central-based sport physiotherapist for GB Wheelchair Archery, all while running his own clinic. During his time in the UK, he led the physiotherapy team for the Wheelchair Basketball venue at the inaugural London 2014 Invictus Games and later joined the UK Invictus medical team for the Toronto 2017 Invictus Games.
